Meet the Beatles ... again
Yeah, so, the Top 11 takes on the Beatles again. Honestly, I don't know if it was such a good idea to do two weeks in a row of Beatles, but, eh, what can you do? Let's see I've got my remote, my laptop, my Homer on my lap, I'm ready to go.
This is .......... my "American Idol" break down:
Rocker nurse Amanda – I like Amanda. I enjoy her performances and I look forward to them. I understand what Simon is saying though. She is the same week after week, but she has that kind of voice. I would love to hear her do something different, slow it down, perhaps. In no way do I expect Amanda to win this competition, but I hope she sticks around for a while for a few more weeks.
“OMG I'm like totally racist” Kristy, who was a country music train wreck last week, ruins, errr, I mean sings “You've Got to Hide Your Love Away.” Look out! Bum notes are flying all over the place. Someone could get hurt. Egads. I really dislike her. Ohhh, she got the “you look beautiful tonight” from Paula. Nice! Then she gets the “Gee, you weren't as terrible as last week, but you are still boring” from Simon. Then she says to Simon, “I can blow you out of your socks and you know it.” Ummm, no we don't. Oh, what are you going to do, Kristy? Sing “Amazing Grace” again? Or did she really mean “blow you” (wink wink) out of your socks. Gawd, I hate her.
Little David -- After totally sucking it last week, Little David has returned to singing well and remembering the words. He was very good. Once again, I must say, the kid can sing. I won't be downloading any of his music, but he can sing. I wonder if he's got stage parents who just kicked his ass after his blunder last week. Just wondering ...
Hot Aussie says his most memorable moment on the show is when he sang “Bohemian Rhapsody” during Hollywood week. He's right. He's never been that good again. I keep waiting and waiting for him to be that good. After tonight, well, I'm still waiting. That was pretty terrible. I hate to say it, because I love to look at him, but he was bad. He was off key and all over the place. So disappointing. And, I don't think playing the dead friend card is going to keep him out of the bottom three this week.
Brooke has been my favorite for weeks and weeks. Oh, Brooke. Tonight was not her finest performance, but I still like her. I think she should have picked a different song, instead of “Here Comes the Sun.” That would have helped. I also think she needs the guitar or the piano, because she can't really dance. I loved that Randy said something about the “wooooooo” and she agreed, saying “That just slipped out. I agree with you.” And I think she handled the criticism like an adult. I guess she really can't do anything wrong for me right now. I just like her. I hate Kristy and I like Brooke.
Rocker David with the bad hair opts for Whitesnake's version of “Day Tripper.” I stand by my original comment on this guy: He will make a most excellent rock band frontman. I just don't see him as a solo artist, as a rock star. It's not that I don't like him. I do. They knocked Amanda for sounding the same every week, so it's a good thing that Simon pointed out that David pretty much sounds the same every week, too.
Carly sings “Blackbird” and Randy and Paula practically trip over each other to heap praise on her. I know everyone loves Carly, but I thought the performance was kinda boring. There's no doubt about it, she can sing. I'm not even arguing that she can't. Something about her kinda rubs me the wrong way. I can't quite put my finger on it. I don't hate her like “OMG I'm like totally racist” Kristy, though. Also, Carly needs to chat with Idol's makeup artists. Every week they put more and more makeup on her, making her look older and crazier.
The dreaded one appears to be stoned during his video segment. This is not surprising. In fact, he might be stoned up on stage, too. He sings “Michelle,” and, well, ummm, is this an audition for “High School Musical 3”? That was lame. He's like Brooke. He needs to be grounded by his guitar. He can't really move on stage either. I think this is his worst performance to date, but I don't see him going home with week.
“Model/actress” Syesha says being in the bottom three last week gave her a kick in the ass. I hope she's right. She seems to have the potential to be really good, but I have been unimpressed so far. Tonight is her best performance on the show, but I'm not going to hook up my iPod and download it. To paraphrase the country bimbo, she didn't blow my socks off.
After last week's performance, my man Chikezie has a tough act to follow. The song started out slow and transitioned into something more bluegrassy. The transition wasn't as smooth as last week, but I still really enjoyed it. I really like Chikezie. I love his voice. I love that he is trying something different. Unlike Amanda or Rocker David, Chikezie can never be accused of sounding the same every week.
Ramiele sings “I Should Have Known Better” in an attempt to not bore us to death. Sigh. This is a personal favorite Beatles song for me from “A Hard Day's Night,” which is one of my favorite movies of all time. She ruins it. I really, REALLY, REALLY hated it. I will have to bang my head against the wall and hit just the right spot to have the song erased from my memory. I heard that Kristy really sucked last week, but I can't remember, so I know it really works.
So, who was the best? Little David and Chikezie.
And, who's getting boot? I'm going with Ramiele, Kristy and Hot Aussie as the bottom three. Ramiele was terrible this week, but she's a better singer than Kristy, which just might work in her favor and buy her another week. And the Hot Aussie, well, he's hot. I'm guessing Kristy will be going home. Of course, that may be wishful thinking on my part.

Although I can still hope for the roach-stomp-dancer rocker to go. But that's just me. True story: Last week Sarah & I had Idol on and we were both not really paying attention to the bad medley portion of the show. We both looked up at the same time because it sounded like someone royally screwed up...but it was just Cruella "singing." Didn't I say "one trick pony" a few weeks ago?
